Post – harvest treatment of Dasheen

Post – harvest treatment of Dasheen
To ensure 4 weeks shelf life

Using a soft brush or rag, wash dasheen corms thoroughly to remove all soil, roots and dead tissue.

Cut off the “tail” end leaving a ¼ inch (6mm) piece on the corm. Cut the top to leave a 1 inch (25mm) long “stalk” attached to the dasheen corm.
Dasheen should be treated within 4hours of digging up with a fungicide (for 2-3 seconds in a ½ oz of Ridomil mbc 60WP in 6 gallons (28litres0 of water). Mix well with a wooden stick, use the dip solution until the level drops too low or the mixture becomes discoloured.

Place in crates to air dry in shade.
Pack in 30- 40lbs (15-20kg) containers for shipment.
Corms can be eaten 1 week after treatment

Workers should wear protective clothing- rubber gloves and plastic aprons.
